X-ray Inspection Meets Customer Expectations
The Challenge
Each year Thorntons produces over 20 million tons of confectionery including chocolates, toffee and fudge that are sold both in the UK and internationally. As part of Thorntons’ commitment to ensuring their products are of superior quality, the company began looking for a solution to further improve its contamination detection capabilities and enhance quality control.
The Solution
In 2013 the British chocolatier integrated a fourth Eagle x-ray inspection system, a Pack 320 PRO, into its production process. Positioned at the end of the production line, the machine checks for physical contaminants and simultaneously examines that each box contains the correct number of chocolates.
“Our chocolate makers take real pride in all their creations and like to make sure every single chocolate sold is simply the best, and x-ray inspection is helping us to do this by ensuring that each product looks and tastes exactly as our customers expect.” Mr. Mark Campion (Continuous Improvement Manager), Thorntons
